My weekend was spent in the charming village of Zhiguliovsk, nestled between the Volga and the Zhiguli mountains (hills to us, but never mind). It’s always a joy to spend time with my friends, Katya and Sasha and watch their family grow and thrive. Their lives are a true miracle. You can catch up if you want to here and here.
This time, I thought you’d enjoy seeing some pictures of winter in a Russian village, where the roads to the homes aren’t plowed, the drifts grow tall, and the backyard banya beckons.
Hope you are enjoying my adventure. Sometimes I feel like I’m living in some kind of altered dimension — that it’s not really me tromping through the drifts, watching the snowflakes dart back and forth in the wind, dodging icy patches and slogging through slush. But fairy tales can come true…can’t they?

Very proud of you, Jeanette, you took this trip to the country side on your very first winter visit! Things look very sweet and picturesque though and the challenge of going to Zhigulevsk was worth it. Snow and landscapes can be different outside a megapolis in Russia. And the winter white feels more virgin and proverbial in places with cottages like in Zhigulevsk. So glad to see your good friends there are doing so well. The invigorating frost and snow glowing power comes to your complexion so well, too:) These are great pictures and a great visit, Jeanette:)
