So, I have a short list of activities or experiences I hoped to have on my Russian Winter adventure. One of these was to try cross-country skiing. Mind you, the last time I was on a pair of skiis was when I was about 22 years old. The skiis were for downhill and the venue was Mammoth Mountain in May. So in reality I approached the cross-country even as a raw beginner, and much older.
My friend Marina invited me to go with her and her older son, Slava (who is now almost 14). She had all the equipment, including a hot thermos of sweet tea to drink after we were done. At the last minute, Tanya agreed to go with us, so we had a photographer to capture my new adventure in pictures.
So yes, I fell once. Well, twice. At the end, when my legs just gave out. But what the heck. I did it.
Yes, I did!

Wow! You are my hero! I have never skied. emphasis on never.
And, you looked great at the end with those pink cheeks. Blessings!
Pati…how are those socks working for you?

The socks are perfect! So glad you made them and I “stole” them! 🙂 xoxoxo I’m surprised you never skiied before – growning up in the snow country like you did. It’s good exercise.

Skiiing cost money that we did not have…but I did a lot of free ice skating at the neighborhood ice rink…and sledding. We did a lot of snow shoveling and forts and mazes in our yard…and icecicle eating and snow chunk kicking…(the clods behind the wheels on cars that build up).
Have a safe trip home…I know that it is going to happen within a few days.

Well, the ski park here was free to the public, but unless you have your own equipment, you have to pay for rentals, of course. Mostly people just go to one of the many parks here in the city. But because the weather hasn’t been “cold enough” yet, there isn’t sufficient good snow for skiing (or so I hear…) Anyway, we had fun and I’m glad I tried it.
