Ancient cities have ancient walkways–cobbled, cracked, uneven, tiled. Lovely to look at, charming even. But not so easy on the “dogs.” Nevertheless, the places our feet trod were photo worthy. Sometimes looking down is interesting too. Thank God for his provision: a soft path of earth. The most beautiful of all.
Going through and Looking in (or out)
Part two in my Volga cruise series is a photo journal of unusual doors and windows. You know, the kind made by craftsmen who hand carved, artisticly painted, or chipped away the stone into something beautiful as well as useful. Whether a church, a brewery, or a home, the message is: welcome! Ok..this last one isn’t beautiful. Just my attempt at being clever. It’s one of the windows of our ship, reflecting us and the place we are leaving. Hopefully to return again.
Domes on the Volga
If a person can have impression overload, I have a bad case! WOW! My cruise up the Volga and back exceeded my expectations and surprised me with a boatload of diversity. Rather than give you a place-by-place storybook, I’m going to do the theme thing. To start with, a collection of photos of cathedral domes. Some date back hundreds of years. Others are shiney new. In any case, a staggering feast for the eyes. And the soul. Hope you enjoy this photo journal – and maybe even think about seeing these amazing places yourself. I imagine some of you are…
In case you are wondering …
why I’m not posting for the next week … It’s because … I’M GOING ON A CRUISE!!!! Yes, after 13 years of neck-breaking schedules and going here and there across the region to speak, minister, and encourage–Tanya and I are going on a 9 day river cruise on the Volga to celebrate and REST. Along the way, we’ll be stopping at some famous historical towns and cities, going on excursions, and seeing a whole new part of the country I’ve come to love. You can see the general itinerary here I’m sure to return with an overload of impressions…
FOODIES! This one’s for you.
Get out your bibs and napkins to catch the drools. Here follows a taste of Russia! Hungry yet? I am! What’s for lunch, Alla?
