I’ve dedicated a PAGE of my website (NEWS FROM SAMARA) to what’s going on in my beloved second home in Samara, Russia. This time, the news isn’t happy. I hope you’ll take a moment to read about the new laws in Russia–and ponder what they might mean to Christians there. Just click HERE
A Little Background
When I first started my “Second-Half Adventure” in Samara in 2001, people welcomed Westerners with open arms and almost celebrity-like attention. Over the years, that enthusiasm has thankfully tempered. But for the past five years, I’ve had this niggling feeling that the open doors have been slowing closing. Although I’ve had innumerable wonderful and poignant moments with my friends in Samara, I’ve also had a few rebuffs. By school administrators, weird detaining in the airport, and friends who mysteriously disengage. Government red tape–or new laws–is often the cause or excuse.
Nevertheless, I still have a valid (tourist) visa and a home where my room is always waiting for me there. I’m sure God is not finished with my presence making a difference in Samara.
