Each year at Mount Hermon I peruse the conference book store and choose a novel by an author I have not previously read. (Hey…maybe someday the favor will be returned.) This year’s lucky winner (please hear the ironic tone) was Marlo Schalesky’s “Veil of Fire.” And what a find! Her writing grabbed me by the throat from the first page and refuses to let go. I love her style—deep third POV that moves the plot along with compelling dialogue and action (and very little narrative.)
