Samara can boast about its many plazas and squares–but my favorite is the Glory Square which overlooks the Volga. Today after a brief rain, the square reflected God’s glory and gave me a rare photo op.
The name of the square derives from the Monument to Glory, built in honor of those who built airplanes during WWII. Just to the right of the monument is the war memorial with its eternal flame. One of the pictures in “Samara in Bloom” shows the memorial covered with flowers on Victory Day. This square is undoubetly one of the best views of the Volga…and boats passing by on the river can’t miss the monument declaring “welcome to Samara.”

Several lifetime residents of Samara told me they had never seen this phenomenon. So…I feel specially blessed.
