Whew! The conference is winding down and what a ride it has been (how’s that for mixing metaphors?) Today a publishing house editor asked me to send him a book propsal for a non-fiction idea I’ve been mulling around in my mind. I also got some GREAT info on how to make some money writing personal experience stories for anthologies like Chicken Soup for the Soul. We still have our evening session with Charlie Peacock, our keynote speaker, and the awards night/autograph party tonight…and then the last part of my children’s writing track in the morning. I’m getting lots of positive comments…
Mount Hermon Writers Conf day 2
All feedback today has been positive! One editor is interested in the magazine article I submitted, another in two of my devotionals. A third would like to hire me for some freelance editing…and I got a thumbs up from my friend and mentor, Kay Marshall Strom, on my book idea. Tomorrow I’ll be meeting with Bill Myers about my children’s novel. He can’t buy it, of course, but he sure can help steer me (us) toward someone who can. I also found out that Dayspring Cards pays $60 per card for…what…30 words? (The right words, of course.) So…this day is…
a great start
So…I’m rather at a loss for words. I’ve picked up a new editing client, have an appointment with a publishing house editor about freelance work for them, and Jim Bell asked me to review one of his new books. It’s only the first day. Yeah, you might say I’m feelin’ the love this year at Mount Hermon.
Thoughts on the way up the Mount
The Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference ( http://mounthermon.org/adult/professionals/writers-conference ) is the PREMIER event of its kind in all of the USA–maybe the world. And I almost didn’t go this year. What was I thinking? Five days of hanging out with awesome, brilliant and successful writers, agents and publishers. The beauty of the Santa Cruz mountains all around me. More classes, workshops, singing praises, laughing, and chattin’ it up than this introverted editor can hardly bear.
